Kitchen inventory

A kitchen and pantry inventory app that counts down what you have

Updated · By SyntyAxis

The All items screen, grains and flours: Atta about 9–14 days, Chana dal about 14–28 days, Moong dal about 20–41 days, Poha about 20–41 days, Ragi flour about 66–90 days, Rava about 19–40 days, Rice about 6–11 days.

MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days each food at home will last, like "atta: about 9–14 days", and reminds everyone before it runs out. It keeps the inventory for you, and staples from the pantry and fresh food from the fridge count down on the same screen.

Why home food inventories go out of date

A kitchen inventory only stays right if someone records every use, and that is the step people skip. Scanning every packet on day one can take an hour. Nobody subtracts 200 g of dal after dinner.

The list drifts. On Saturday someone buys toor dal again, and on Sunday a full packet turns up behind the atta.

MyKitchenRadar keeps a rough picture instead of a perfect one. It estimates how fast your family uses each item and checks with you now and then. A rough count from this morning beats an exact one from three weeks ago.

How the kitchen inventory works

  1. Set up the family once. How many people, their ages, your diet (veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal) and your food culture. You can pick more than one.
  2. Start from the starter kitchen. The app fills in about 40 usual items for your food culture. You tick each one Full, Low or Out, or skip.
  3. Add the rest your way. Type an item, take a photo of the grocery bill, scan a barcode, or photograph an item the app does not know.
  4. Open All items. Every item sits in a group, such as "Grains and flours", with its countdown beside it: atta about 9–14 days, rice about 6–11 days. Search finds any item by name.
  5. Answer one tap now and then. When the app asks "How much rice is left?", tap Full, Half, Low or Out. Each answer makes that item's range tighter.

What you see for each item

Tap an item to open its page:

  • Days left as a range, such as "about 6–11 days left"
  • A stock chart showing how the amount has gone down over time, with the range shaded
  • The quick check: Full, Half, Low, Out
  • Always keep: the level you never want to drop below, like 5 kg of rice
  • Last bought: when, and how much
  • Order links that open a shop app with the item already searched
The Rice item page: about 6–11 days left, runs out between 15 and 20 Nov, a stock chart with the Half answer, the always-keep level of 5 kg and order links.

Staples, fresh food and spices are counted differently

A 10 kg bag of rice empties slowly, a pouch of milk is gone in a day, and a jar of cumin lasts months. The app shows each kind in its own way.

Kind of item Examples What the app shows
Staples used every day Rice, atta, dal, oil A countdown range, like "about 9–14 days"
Fresh food that spoils Milk, curd, greens, tomato A countdown plus a freshness clock, marked Use first
Spices and snacks Masalas, biscuits "Last bought 6 weeks ago"

Every countdown uses one color rule: red for today or 1 day, amber for 2–6 days, green for 7 days or more. The status is also written in words.

How it differs from a list app or a pantry logger

A pantry logger is only as current as the last thing someone recorded. MyKitchenRadar estimates what is used between your answers, so the inventory keeps moving on days nobody opens the app.

Shopping list app Pantry logger MyKitchenRadar
What it knows Items you typed Items you scanned in and out Items you have, and how fast your family uses them
How it stays current You add and tick items You record every use It estimates daily use and asks one tap now and then
What it tells you What is on the list What is in the cupboard How many days each item will last
Fresh food Not tracked Often by expiry date Countdown plus Use first

A home grocery tracker for the whole family

An invite link puts the same kitchen on every phone in the family. When Dad opens the app at the shop, he sees the rice that Mom checked this morning. When Emma pours the last of the milk, the countdown has said "finishes today" since breakfast.

Set up your kitchen in one sitting

Pick your food culture, tick about 40 items Full, Low or Out, and every item starts counting down. Want to see the numbers first? The rice guide shows how long a bag lasts by family size.

Questions

Do I have to log every time we use something?

No. MyKitchenRadar guesses daily use from your family's size, ages and food culture. Now and then it asks how much is left, and you tap Full, Half, Low or Out.

How do I add what is already in my kitchen?

Start from the starter kitchen, about 40 usual items for your food culture, and tick each one Full, Low or Out. Add the rest by typing, a photo of the grocery bill, a barcode or a photo of the item.

Does it track fresh food that spoils?

Yes. Milk, curd, greens and tomato get a freshness clock as well as a countdown. When one should be eaten soon, the app marks it Use first.

What about spices that last for months?

Spices and snacks have no steady daily use, so the app shows when you last bought them, like "last bought 6 weeks ago", instead of a day count.

Can my family share one inventory?

Yes. An invite link puts the same kitchen on every phone in the family. Sharing needs sign-in and SyntyAxis's server.

Is the kitchen inventory free?

The core app is free and has no ads. There will be one optional Family plan, and its price is not decided yet.
