Family kitchen app · Coming soon

Know how many days your food will last.

MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days each food at home will last, like rice: about 6–11 days, and reminds everyone before it runs out.

Coming soon for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android after that. Free core app. One optional Family plan. No ads.

Next to finish

A sample kitchen for a family of four. Your countdown starts from your own family and learns from your answers.

The MyKitchenRadar Today screen on Monday, 9 Nov: a radar dial with 2 items by tomorrow, 4 this week and 20 later, then Milk finishes today, Curd about 1 day (use first), Tomato about 2 days, Spinach about 2 days, Onion about 4–6 days, Rice about 6–11 days and Atta about 9–14 days.

Food runs out at the wrong moment because nobody can see how much is left

  • Milk runs out at breakfast.
  • The rice bag is empty the night before guests arrive.
  • Two people buy atta in the same week, because nobody knew a full bag was at home.
  • The cook asks "is there dal?" while the shopper stands in the shop with no idea.
  • Spinach and curd go off at the back of the fridge.

A shopping list can't warn you about any of this. It only holds what someone remembered to type.

A shopping list remembers what you typed. MyKitchenRadar counts down what you have.

What it knows What someone typed What you recorded, item by item How many days each item will last
Your work Type each item Record every use One tap now and then: Full, Half, Low or Out
Tells you what runs out next No Only if every use is logged Yes, as a range like "about 6–11 days"

You start from about 40 usual items for your food culture, not an empty list, and you never record a single cup of rice.

A countdown that learns how your family eats

  1. Set up your family once

How many people, their ages, your diet (veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal) and your food culture. Pick two if you cook both.

  2. Get a range, never a fake date

The first guess is typical daily use for your food culture, times your family's size and ages.

  3. Answer with one tap

Now and then the app asks "How much rice is left?" Tap Full, Half, Low or Out, or type the amount.

  4. Watch the range narrow

Each answer shows the app how your family really eats. The countdown runs on your phone and works offline.

Worked example: one 10 kg bag of rice

Mom, Dad, Emma (8) and Grandma (70) live in a Tamil city home and open a 10 kg bag of rice. On day 0 the app shows "about 10–16 days". On day 10 Dad taps Half, the app sees they eat less rice than it first guessed, and the countdown becomes "about 6–11 days".

Without that one tap, the family would have bought rice days before they needed it. See the full maths, or try your own bag.

  • Day 0First guess: about 10–16 days
  • Day 10Dad taps Half
  • New rangeabout 6–11 more days
Rice left over time for a family of four, from one 10 kg bag On day 0 the first guess is about 10–16 days, most likely about day 13. On day 10 Dad answers Half, so about 5 kg is left instead of the 2.1 kg the first guess expected, and the new range is about 6–11 more days, so the bag empties between day 16 and day 21. 1050 kg first guess: day 10–16 Half, day 10 6–11 more days Day 0Day 10Day 16–21

Red, amber and green, always with words

Red means today or 1 day left. Amber means 2–6 days. Green means 7 days or more. Every item also says it in words, such as "finishes today" or "about 6–11 days".

Milk, curd, greens and tomato also carry a freshness clock and a "Use first" label. Spices and snacks show "last bought 6 weeks ago" instead of a day count. Mark guests, a festival or a party, and the countdown speeds up.

  • RedToday or 1 day. Milk: finishes today.
  • Amber2–6 days. Rice: about 6–11 days.
  • Green7 days or more. Atta: about 9–14 days.
The Buy list screen: shopping day Saturday with a reminder on Friday at 7 pm. Needed by tomorrow: Milk 2 L, added by Emma, and Paneer 200 g, added by Mom. This week: Tomato 1 kg, Rice 10 kg and Coriander 1 bunch. Order buttons for Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart and BigBasket.

The buy list is ready the evening before you shop

The buy list puts items under "Needed by tomorrow" and "This week". Each one has a suggested amount and the name of whoever added it, like "Milk, 2 L, Emma".

Set your shopping day once. If you shop on Saturday, the buy list reminder comes on Friday at 7 pm.

Needed by tomorrow

  • Milk 2 L Emma: “need milk for cereal!”
  • Paneer 200 g Mom: “for palak paneer”

This week

  • Tomato 1 kg Mom
  • Rice 10 kg Dad: below 5 kg
  • Coriander 1 bunch Dad

One kitchen on every phone in the family

Send an invite link and the same kitchen opens on every phone: Mom, Dad, Emma, Jack and Grandma see the same countdown and the same buy list. Here is how one week goes in a home where one person shops and another cooks.

  1. Monday, 8:00

Mom's phone shows "3 things are running low." Milk finishes today and curd has about 1 day left.

Kitchen Radar · 8:00Good morning. 3 things are running low.
  2. Thursday

Mom picks a dish from what is in stock and sends the menu to Grandma, who cooks.

What else the app does around the countdown

Reminders, widgets and Siri

At 8:00 one digest lists what is running low. Anything about to finish gets its own alert at 6 pm the evening before, and again at 8:00 on the day. The small widget shows "Low: milk, curd". "Hey Siri, add milk to Kitchen Radar" puts milk on the buy list.

“Hey Siri, add milk to Kitchen Radar.”

Snap the grocery bill

Photograph the grocery bill and the app reads it into stock. You can also type, scan a barcode, or photograph an item the app does not know.

Reports on what you use

See what you used, bought and spent on each item, your monthly spend, and a food-saved card.

Ask the app

Chat about your kitchen, like "what can I make with the spinach?". Each item also has its own page with a stock chart and an "always keep" level.

Made for Indian kitchens, and for yours

MyKitchenRadar counts down the staples Indian families buy in big packs, rice, atta, dal and oil, along with milk that comes every day. It works the same way for a family that shops once a week anywhere else.

Questions, answered

See all questions

What does MyKitchenRadar do?

It tells your family how many days each food at home will last, for example rice: about 6–11 days, and reminds everyone before it runs out. It also keeps one shared buy list and suggests what to cook from what is already there.

How is it different from a shopping list app?

A shopping list app remembers what you typed. MyKitchenRadar counts down what you have, so milk or rice reaches the buy list before the pack is empty.

How does it know how many days my food will last?

The first guess is typical daily use for your food culture, times your family's size and ages. Now and then it asks how much is left, and each answer narrows the range.

Do I have to weigh food or log everything we use?

No. When it asks, you tap Full, Half, Low or Out. If you know the exact amount, you can type it.

Can the whole family use the same kitchen?

Yes. An invite link puts the same kitchen on every phone in the family, so the person who shops and the person who cooks see the same countdown. Sharing needs sign-in and SyntyAxis's server.

Does it work for Indian kitchens?

Yes. It counts down rice, atta, dal and oil bought in big packs and handles veg, egg, Jain and halal diets. It speaks 9 Indian languages among its 17, and in India the order links open Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, BigBasket or Amazon.

Is it free?

The core app is free and has no ads. There will be one optional Family plan. Its price is not decided yet.

When can I download it?

It is not released yet, and there is no release date. iPhone, iPad and Mac come first as one app. Android comes after that.
