> MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days your rice, atta, dal, oil and milk will last and reminds the family before they run out. Its first guess comes from Indian survey data for your food culture, scaled to your family's ages. It handles veg, non-veg, egg, Jain and halal diets and works in English and 9 Indian languages. Order links open Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, BigBasket or Amazon with the item already searched.

MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days each food at home will last, like "rice: about 6–11 days", and reminds everyone before it runs out. It is made for kitchens that buy rice by the 10 kg bag and milk every morning.

## Built for staples bought in big packs

Many Indian homes buy rice, atta, dal and oil in big packs that last weeks. A 10 kg bag of rice or a 5 kg bag of atta does not run out in a day. It runs out on the one evening nobody checked, often the night before guests come.

MyKitchenRadar counts each pack down in days. The Today screen lists what finishes next, and the rice bag turns amber while about 6 days are still left.

The item names are the ones you use at home: atta, toor dal, chana dal, moong dal, poha (aval), rava (sooji), ragi flour, sesame oil.

## It starts from how Indian families really eat

The first guess for rice and wheat starts from what India's national survey observed for your food culture, then scales it to your family's ages. That is why a Tamil kitchen and a North Indian kitchen get different first guesses for the same 10 kg bag.

| Rice and wheat per person per 30 days, urban | Rice | Wheat and atta |
|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | 6.467 kg | 0.677 kg |
| All India | 4.193 kg | 3.622 kg |

Take a Tamil city family of 4: two parents, a child of 8 and a grandmother of 70. They eat about 0.79 kg of rice a day, so a 10 kg bag starts at about 10–16 days. The [full worked example](/how-it-works/) shows every step.

No family is the average. Now and then the app asks "How much rice is left?" You tap Full, Half, Low or Out, and the range moves to how your family eats.

## Milk, curd and fresh vegetables every day

In many Indian homes milk comes every morning, and coriander, tomato and spinach are bought every few days. These run out or go off fast, so they also get a freshness clock.

On Monday, 9 Nov the sample kitchen shows milk as "finishes today", curd as "about 1 day" and tomato as "about 2 days". The 8:00 digest says the same before anyone opens the fridge.

## Veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal

You set the family's diet once: veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal. You also pick your food culture from 41, and you can pick more than one.

Many homes cook from two traditions. If one parent grew up on Tamil food and the other on North Indian food, pick both. The starter kitchen then fills in the usual items from both kitchens, and dish ideas on the Cook tab come from both.

## The person who shops is often not the person who cooks

In many homes one person shops, another cooks, and a grandparent knows what is in the steel dabbas. MyKitchenRadar puts the same kitchen on every phone in the family with an invite link.

Dad at the shop sees that rice is below 5 kg. Mom sends today's menu from the Cook tab to whoever is cooking. Nobody has to call home to ask if there is dal.

## Order on Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, BigBasket or Amazon

Every item on the buy list has order links. In India they open Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, BigBasket or Amazon with the item already searched. You place the order in that app as usual.

The buy list itself is split into "Needed by tomorrow" and "This week", and it arrives the evening before your shopping day.

## In English and 9 Indian languages

MyKitchenRadar works in 17 languages, including English and these 9 Indian languages.

| Language | In its own script |
|---|---|
| Hindi | हिन्दी |
| Tamil | தமிழ் |
| Telugu | తెలుగు |
| Kannada | ಕನ್ನಡ |
| Malayalam | മലയാളം |
| Marathi | मराठी |
| Bengali | বাংলা |
| Gujarati | ગુજરાતી |
| Punjabi | ਪੰਜਾਬੀ |

The app name stays MyKitchenRadar in every language. See all 17 on [Languages and cuisines](/languages-and-cuisines/).

## Festivals, guests and functions

Occasions such as Pongal, Diwali, Eid or Onam, a wedding in the family, or ten guests for lunch use more rice, oil and milk than a normal week. Mark the occasion in the app and the countdown speeds up, so the ranges move closer to today and the buy list fills earlier.

## Start with your own rice bag

The app is not out yet. Today, the free [How long will it last?](/tools/how-long-will-it-last/) estimator gives the first guess for your own rice or atta bag and state. The [monthly grocery list for Indian families](/guides/monthly-grocery-list-india/) covers what to buy.

## Questions

### Does MyKitchenRadar work for a typical Indian kitchen?

Yes. The starter kitchen fills in about 40 usual items for your food culture, such as rice, toor dal, atta, onion, tomato, milk and sesame oil. Each one gets a countdown in days.

### Which Indian languages does it support?

Nine Indian languages plus English: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi. All 17 languages are planned for the 1.0 release.

### Does it support Jain, egg and halal diets?

Yes. You set the family's diet once at setup: veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal.

### Which shops do the order links open in India?

Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, BigBasket and Amazon. Each link opens the shop's app with the item already searched, and you order there.

### Can I track ration rice as well?

Yes. A bag of ration rice is rice in your kitchen. Add it like any other bag, and the countdown includes it.

### Is it on Android?

Not yet. MyKitchenRadar comes first for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android comes after that.

### How much does it cost?

The core app is free and has no ads. There will be one optional Family plan, and its price is not decided yet.
